Job Description

At John F. Tierney Funeral Home, we do not sell funerals—we help families through some of the most difficult days of their lives. We are looking for a compassionate, organized, dependable, and occasionally good\-humored Administrative \& Financial Assistant to join our team. This position is often the first voice families hear on the phone and the first face they see when they walk through our doors. The right person understands that every interaction matters and takes pride in helping people feel welcomed, supported, and cared for. We are a small team that relies on one another. Some days are busy, some days are emotional, and some days require everyone to jump in and help wherever needed. We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team, isn't afraid to pitch in, and understands that no task is beneath any of us when it comes to serving families well. What You'll Do * Answer incoming phone calls professionally and compassionately * Welcome families, visitors, clergy, and vendors to the funeral home * Schedule appointments and assist with calendar management * Enter and maintain information accurately within our funeral home management systems * Prepare, proofread, and organize documents and correspondence * Assist with obituary administration, service information, and family paperwork * Manage filing, scanning, and record keeping * Support our funeral directors and staff with daily administrative needs * Order and maintain office supplies and help keep the office organized and running efficiently * Assist with special projects, community events, and occasional outreach efforts * Provide exceptional customer service while handling sensitive and confidential information In addition to supporting families and daily office operations, this role will also assist with the financial and administrative side of our business by: * Assisting with accounts payable and invoice processing * Entering and organizing financial information accurately * Preparing deposits and maintaining records * Supporting bookkeeping functions within QuickBooks and other business software * Assisting with system integrations and data management between our funeral home, cremation, and accounting platforms * Helping identify opportunities to improve office workflows and administrative efficiency * Working closely with our bookkeeper and leadership team to ensure accurate and timely record keeping What We're Looking For * A genuinely kind and professional person who enjoys helping others * Someone who works well with others and values being part of a team * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities * Ability to remain calm and composed in emotional or stressful situations * Comfort using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email, and general office technology * Strong typing and data entry skills * Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy * Comfort working with numbers, financial records, and business software * Previous administrative, receptionist, customer service, healthcare, hospitality, bookkeeping, accounting support, or funeral service experience is helpful but not required Bonus Points If You Have Experience With * QuickBooks or similar accounting software * Accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general bookkeeping * Software implementation, integrations, or database management * Process improvement and administrative organization * Working with multiple software platforms and helping them communicate efficiently What It's Like to Work Here We believe great service starts with great people. Compensation Competitive hourly wage based on experience, along with paid time off, retirement benefits, and opportunities for professional growth.
