**CLORA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES** Job Description **Transport Driver / First Call Driver** **Department** Operations / Transportation **Reports To** Funeral Director / Location Manager **Classification** Non\-Exempt \| Part\-Time or Full\-Time (as assigned) **Work Location** Multiple Chapel Locations — Detroit Metro Area, MI **Schedule** Varies; on\-call availability required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays Position Summary The Transport Driver / First Call Driver is responsible for the dignified and timely transfer of human remains on behalf of Clora Funeral Home and Cremation Services. This role serves as a critical first point of contact in the care process and reflects the Company’s commitment to treating every individual with the highest level of respect, professionalism, and compassion. The Transport Driver operates Company vehicles, completes required documentation, and coordinates closely with funeral directors and chapel staff across multiple locations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Transportation \& Transfers * Perform first call removals from hospitals, nursing facilities, hospice centers, private residences, and medical examiner locations * Transport decedents between chapels, cremation facilities, and other designated locations as directed * Ensure all transfers are conducted with dignity, care, and strict adherence to Company protocols * Operate Company vehicles safely and in compliance with all applicable traffic laws and Michigan Motor Vehicle Code Documentation \& Compliance * Complete transfer authorization forms, removal records, and other required documentation accurately and on time * Verify and confirm proper identification of decedents at time of removal and during all transfers * Maintain chain\-of\-custody documentation in compliance with Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requirements * Report any irregularities, incidents, or concerns to the supervising funeral director immediately Vehicle \& Equipment Maintenance * Inspect assigned vehicle before and after each use; report mechanical issues promptly to management * Keep Company vehicles clean, fueled, and properly stocked with required supplies at all times * Submit fuel receipts and mileage logs per Company policy * Ensure stretchers, cots, and transport equipment are properly maintained and sanitized Professionalism \& Family Interactions * Represent Clora Funeral Home with courtesy and compassion in all interactions with families, medical staff, and facility personnel * Maintain a composed, professional demeanor in all settings, including emotionally sensitive environments * Wear Company\-issued attire and adhere to personal appearance standards at all times while on duty Minimum Qualifications * Valid Michigan Driver’s License with a clean driving record (MVR will be reviewed) * Minimum age of 18 years * Ability to pass a background check * Reliable, punctual, and available for on\-call scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays * Ability to lift and carry up to 200 lbs with a partner (team lifts required for all transfers) * Comfort working with human remains in a professional, respectful manner * Strong attention to detail and ability to complete documentation accurately Preferred Qualifications * Prior experience in funeral services, medical transport, EMS, or a related field * CPR/First Aid certification (not required but a plus) * Familiarity with Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb County geography and road networks * Basic knowledge of funeral home operations or death care regulations Work Environment \& Physical Demands This position requires regular exposure to deceased individuals in various settings, including hospitals, private residences, and care facilities. The work environment may include confined spaces, outdoor settings in all weather conditions, and emotionally sensitive situations. The Transport Driver must be physically capable of maneuvering a cot and decedent in challenging environments. This is not a desk position — physical stamina and composure are essential. Compensation \& Classification This is a non\-exempt, hourly position. The starting pay rate is $20\.00 per hour. Overtime is paid at one and one\-half (1\.5x) the regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. All overtime must be approved in advance by management. Eligible full\-time employees may qualify for Company benefits after satisfying applicable waiting periods, including PTO, holiday pay, and health insurance, in accordance with the Clora Funeral Home Employee Handbook.
