Why does the job exist?
This position does grounds work and facility maintenance in an advanced capacity for the Taos State Veteran's Cemetery. This position prepares the grave sites, assist with internments, and backfills grave sites. This position will assist with the installation of headstones and markers, order markers and headstones, and will assists the Cemetery Supervisor with administrative duties as directed by the supervisor. This position acts as the lead person when the supervisor is unavailable.
How does it get done?
This position requires knowledge of cemetery tools, equipment and vehicles. Grounds work will require the use of department vehicles, grounds tools (weed whacker, mowers, hand tools, back\-pack and hand\-held blowers). Backhoe and trenching equipment will be used to prepare grave sites. This position will be required to use equipment to fulfill the job duties. This position will be required to conduct administrative duties as directed.

The Taos State Veterans Cemetery is the final resting place for US Veterans and their spouses. This state cemetery serves the rural communities of Northern New Mexico.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2\) years of experience in cemetery interment, construction, heavy and mid\-size construction equipment operations, and/or landscape maintenance/groundskeeping. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2\) years may substitute for the required experience. Must complete training in compliance with the NCA guidelines as soon as practicable after hire. Must complete training to become OSHA Ten (10\) certified within one (1\) year of hire.
Employment Requirements
This position requires exterior work in all types of weather. Employee is required to maintain grounds and should be able to lift fifty (50\) pounds, climb, crawl, pull, work with shovels, rakes, hand tools, small engine equipment and travel will be required in both in\-state and out\-of\-state for training.
