Seasonal Grounds Maintenance

**Available immediately – Cemetery Grounds Maintenance – April to December \- Full Time** River View Cemetery in Portland, Oregon currently has several openings for seasonal full time Grounds Maintenance Associates who have integrity, who are energetic, willing to work outside and provide exceptional customer service. Established in 1882, River View Cemetery is Portland’s oldest non\-profit endowment care cemetery. **This position offers a great opportunity to learn landscaping skills in a beautiful setting near Portland's city center. We are seeking four (4\) seasonal workers.** We are seeking Maintenance Associates to maintain the overall appearance of cemetery, mausoleum and funeral home locations. Duties may include maintenance and groundskeeping, and completing simple repairs and maintenance tasks. **Essential Job Duties** An employee in this position must be able to perform all the essential job duties listed below with or without reasonable accommodation; however, this list is not intended to include all of the specific tasks which an employee in this position may be expected to perform. Maintenance Worker maintains the overall appearance of cemetery, mausoleum and funeral home location. Duties of this position may include maintenance and groundskeeping, and completing simple repairs and maintenance tasks. * Maintain grounds, walkways and memorial markers, lay sod, move flowers to and from chapel and graveside, clear debris and maintain drive and walkways in safe condition * Shovel snow and remove ice from the grounds * Remove litter and rubbish from grounds. * Operates handheld power tools such as; gas powered string trimmers, leaf blowers, operate mowers. * Must work outside all the time and in all weather conditions. * Erect tents/canopies and arranges chairs for graveside ceremony * Observe safety rules and ensure compliance with the operating procedures of corporate, federal, state and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA and Safety and Environmental guidelines * Work safely and comply with the Company's safety procedures, including but not limited to, wearing steel toed shoes, back braces, hard hats, gloves, eye and ear protection * Effectively works with others to accomplish tasks * Show respect and sensitivity toward client families while working in a physically demanding environment * Ability to lift 75 pounds, bend, and otherwise physically perform the typical duties as required by this position * Performs other duties as assigned Requirements: * High school diploma or relevant qualification required. * Must be reliable and professional. * Prepared to execute all duties and responsibilities in a safe and timely manner. Minimum Requirements * Must be 18 years of age or older (drives River View vehicles and operates machinery/tools) * Any combination of experience and/or education that demonstrates the ability to read instructions and perform routine math with accuracy * Possession of a valid driver's license with at least 2 years of driving experience Abilities * Must be punctual and maintain consistent attendance: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. * Understand and follow verbal and written instructions at a level sufficient to perform the essential functions; ability to speak another language is preferred * Complete work efficiently and in the prescribed manner following a brief training period * Flexible; adjust to varying work environments, job tasks and methods of instructions * Stand for long periods of time on a hard surface * Lift and carry up to 75 lbs. with assistance and perform strenuous physical labor * Properly and safely operate tools and equipment * Work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold and inclement weather * Work quickly and efficiently * Perform all position essential duties and responsibilities * Work assigned schedule and exhibit regular and predictable attendance * Work in a safe manner and follow safety policies, practices and procedures * Comply with River View Cemetery policies, procedures and applicable work rules; applicable law * Performs other duties as assigned Equal employment opportunity: All qualified persons will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital status, familial status, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability for which a reasonable accommodation can be made or any other status protected by law.
