The mission of West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is to ?Serve West Point and the Long Gray Line.? WPAOG is both the alumni association and foundation for the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. Our vision is to ensure the Long Gray Line remains the most highly connected alumni body in the world. USMA is renowned as the world's preeminent leadership development institution. The student body, or Corps of Cadets, numbers 4,400, and each year approximately 1,000 cadets graduate and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.
The West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is seeking a **part\-time Memorial Support Assistant**. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Memorial Support and Outreach. This position is within the Office of Alumni Support.
This position will assist with the day\-to\-day operations of memorial support on behalf of the WPAOG in support of USMA Memorial Services. There are approximately 150 funerals a year at West Point and the busy memorial support season is typically April ? November although funerals are held throughout the year.
As an assistant and point of contact for Memorial Support\-related questions, this position will advise and assist bereaved families with (not all inclusive) post access, reception venues, lodging, florists, photography \& music, transportation, restaurants, assistance with itineraries and private and commercial tours of West Point.
Additional support of outreach to previously supported families through projects such as (but not limited to) Wreaths Across America, mailing custom condolence cards to families of Graduates not buried at West Point and participation in support of the Survivors Community Outreach initiative. This incumbent will respond to daily email and phone inquiries (sometimes these calls may be made during off\-duty hours). Coordinates directly with supporting vendors and participating employers regarding Memorial Support. Work hours may vary.
Must be able to work independently of supervision, exercising sound judgement to meet the needs of the different families. Must be able to deal sensitively with distressing situations. Assists others in Class Support and Alumni Support as needed.
This position requires proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new systems easily. The successful candidate will be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and pay close attention to detail. A bachelor?s degree is preferred. Excellent communication and people skills is a must. An empathetic, collaborative, and pleasant working demeanor is absolutely required. At times, work after normal duty hours and on weekends may be required. Familiarity with the United States Military Academy and the military is preferred.
