Position Summary The Mortuary Transport and Removal Technician is responsible for the safe, respectful, and timely removal, transport, and delivery of deceased individuals from hospitals, residences, nursing homes, accident scenes, and other locations to designated facilities such as funeral homes, medical examiners, or crematories. This role requires empathy, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to operate discreetly in sensitive situations. Key Responsibilities * Respond promptly to removal and transport requests on a rotating schedule (may include nights, weekends, and holidays). * Safely lift, move, and transport human remains using proper equipment and techniques. * Maintain professional and compassionate interactions with families, healthcare personnel, and law enforcement. * Ensure all required forms, chain\-of\-custody documents, and identification tags are accurately completed and maintained. * Operate company vehicles in a safe, respectful, and lawful manner at all times. * Clean, sanitize, and maintain transport vehicles, stretchers, and protective gear in accordance with company protocols. * Comply with OSHA regulations, HIPAA confidentiality standards, and VES company policies. * Assist funeral homes or coroners with additional service needs as directed. Qualifications * Must be at least 21 years of age. * Possess a valid Alabama driver’s license with a clean driving record. * Ability to lift to 250 lbs with assistance and handle physically demanding work. * Must pass a background check and drug screening. * Strong interpersonal communication skills and emotional resilience. * Professional appearance and demeanor at all times. * Previous experience in mortuary transport, funeral services, EMT, or related field preferred (but not required—training provided). Work Environment \& Schedule * On\-call shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. * Work involves exposure to varying temperatures, environments, and sensitive situations. * Team\-based structure with support from dispatch and management staff.
