As a Mortuary Logistics Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the respectful and professional handling of deceased individuals. This role demands a unique blend of skills, including rapid response, critical thinking, teamwork, and professionalism. **Key Responsibilities:** * Respond to death scenes within one hour of notification by the medical examiner investigator, assisting with the safe handling, movement, and transportation of the deceased. * Maintain and organize vehicles, equipment, and go\-kits, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and in excellent working condition. * Assist in the preparation of decedents for viewing and provide support during funeral services. * Undertake extensive driving responsibilities, including local trips and long\-distance journeys with both planned and last\-minute assignments. * Adapt to changing schedules and be prepared for late\-night summons, especially for urgent out\-of\-town trips. **Qualifications:** * Flexibility and endurance for long\-distance driving on short notice. * Ability to take initiative and make decisions in the absence of explicit instructions. * Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a decentralized leadership environment. * Professionalism when interacting with medical examiner investigators, grieving families, and law enforcement. * Effective communication using provided standard operating procedures and methods. * Ability to remain composed in challenging environments, including those with graphic scenes and unpleasant odors. * Emotional and physical strength to handle the demands of the job. **Preferred Qualifications:** * Military veterans, retired or off\-duty first responders, retired or off\-duty medical professionals, or candidates with blocks of available on\-call time. * Successful completion of a drug screening and background check in accordance with county requirements. * Ownership of a smartphone and proficiency in installing and using apps, as well as accessing cloud platforms for shared information. * A clean driving record and a valid Michigan driver’s license. * Demonstrated ability to lift and carry up to 100lbs over short intervals.
