**Job description** Yreka funeral home has a job opportunity for a full time, Funeral Home Assistant. We strive to create a warm and inviting environment along with a strong base of sensitivity for the families we serve. **Location:** Yreka, CA. Mon\-Fri work week, with weekend/nights/on\-call as needed in the greater Siskiyou County area. Residence within a 20\-minute proximity to Yreka, CA is a requirement. **Essential Job Functions:** Meeting the public and working with efficiency while maintaining a professional, friendly, accommodating and supportive customer service attitude. Duties would include assisting in the arrangement and planning of funerals and learning how to operate a crematory retort properly in accordance with all state and local laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Ensuring facilities and equipment are clean, well maintained and in safe working order. This position also assists in the care, removal and transport of human remains from hospital, nursing home or residence in accordance with all state and local laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. **Minimum Experience Required:** The ideal candidate should possess substantial office experience along with a comprehensive understanding of office procedures and protocols. Proficiency in customer service within a meticulous, paperwork\-intensive environment is indispensable. **Skill Required:** Organizational skills and effective communication and coordination of priorities with co\-workers. Safe driving with a high level of compassion, professionalism, integrity, common sense, cooperativeness and flexibility. Proficiency with office equipment and computer software for managing essential records and required record keeping systems. Demonstrate excellent communication skills and etiquette while maintaining discretion and decorum when offering and selling services, cremation products, caskets, urns, and headstones. Some of the training will include becoming certified as a Funeral Arranger and instruction that results in a demonstrated knowledge of the cremation process, including identification, operation, processing, and the laws relevant to the handling of a body and cremated remains. **Typical Working Conditions:** Time will be divided between office work, meeting with families, backroom crematory work and driving in a company vehicle, providing 1st call pickup of the decedent. Working conditions include a wide range of conditions including exposure to the outdoors, unfavorable weather conditions, visits to decedent's home, hospital or other locations. Work will be a mix of time spent in a climate controlled office, while backroom crematory time could include a wide range of conditions including exposure to non\- climate controlled areas. **Equipment Used:** Operate funeral home vehicles in a safe and inconspicuous manner in all weather and at any time of day or night. Standard office equipment for managing essential records and required record keeping systems. Maintain office inventory and assist with other clerical tasks. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) utilizing “Universal Precautions”. Mortuary stretcher, use of ankle bands, appropriate wrapping of decedent, and slide boards. Pen/Paper record keeping along with digital records data entry. Operation of crematory retort. Expectation of professional dress \& appearance following company dress code and personal standards policies for job being performed. Maintains and ensures the removal vehicle is clean inside and out and is properly maintained. Ensures that all scheduled equipment and facilities are clean and prepared for commitments. **Essential Physical Tasks:** Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and assist with push/pull 200\+ pounds. Twisting and turning and bending, reaching over shoulders, sitting, standing, walking on uneven and/or slippery surfaces.
