Cemetery Maintenance

**Description** --------------- Under the direction of the Cemetery Supervisor, assists in the operation and maintenance of the cemeteries, including the preparation of gravesites and related functions. **Examples of Duties** ---------------------- * Assists the Cemetery Supervisor in the operation and maintenance of the cemeteries. * Operates a backhoe to dig gravesites in cemeteries, flowerbeds in parks, and perform other designated digging as necessary. * Installs foundations and grave markers and attends graveside ceremonies to perform designated burial functions. * Reviews and ensures accuracy of burial service work order information. * Operates a dump truck for the digging of graves and various maintenance functions as necessary. * Operates all related power equipment as needed for maintenance functions, including tractors, mowers, sweepers, weed whips, and chainsaws. * Performs various maintenance functions for cemetery equipment, irrigation system, and building facilities as necessary. * Meets with families to locate and sell grave spaces. * Performs snow removal duties in winter utilizing various forms of equipment. * Supervises employees as assigned. OTHER DUTIES \& RESPONSIBILITIES: * Performs other duties as assigned. **Typical Qualifications** -------------------------- 1\. The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of high school. 2\. HiLo License required. 3\. Two to four years of experience in power equipment operation and turf or grounds maintenance. 4\. Interpersonal skills necessary to provide courteous and tactful responses to community members, contractors, funeral homes, and various levels of City personnel. 5\. Mental ability to periodically handle pressures related to meeting deadlines and fulfilling schedule requirements. 6\. Physical ability to periodically lift/push/pull/transport caskets, grave markers, and various equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. Ability to occasionally bend/stoop/crawl/climb to accommodate different working positions. **Supplemental Information** ---------------------------- **WORKING CONDITIONS:** * Work includes outside working conditions with periodic exposure to extreme hot or cold weather conditions. * Work includes occasional exposure to fumes, odors, dust, dirt, noise, moving objects, and contact with chemicals or hazardous materials. * Work includes periodic exposure to environmental hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment. **ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:** * Weekend rotation is required. Occasionally you may work two or three Saturdays per month.
